International created a unique approach to assuring the quality of caring and compassion, adaptable for use by staff in all health and social care settings. CBAS is an evidence-based system for enabling and assuring the delivery of person-centred health and care from Board to point of care. It addresses caring for patients and caring for staff in equal measure; it engages with individuals, teams, executive boards and the national agenda in assuring the quality of the care experience for patients, their families and for staff. Those who choose a career in health and social care want to make a difference to the lives of others. They want to offer high quality, person-centred care, given with compassion and kindness, in which the wants and needs of all patients/clients are addressed in the creation of unique care packages. Staff are also service users: they seek satisfaction for themselves within their organisations and from the delivery of the best care/support they can give.
The design principles of CBAS emerge from a belief that sometimes the standard of care falls below expectations, a situation often due to a lack of common understanding or perception about action and intention. The Caring Behaviours Assurance System is a way of exploring the perceptions of everyone involved in the delivery of healthcare with a view to enhancing understanding and co-operation, so that action can be put in place to assure greater satisfaction with the quality of care given and received.
